摘　　要：The Merchant of Venice is one of the most successful works written by the famous British playwright William Shake?speare, and the discussion of the Jew-Shylock has always been a focus in literary circles. Shylock is viewed as a negative role, but the author considers that Shylock's positive characters such as capability, toughness and love for family as well as the faithfulness to Judaism are worthwhile for people to learn. This thesis will analyze Shylock's positive characters based on the historical back?ground of The Merchant of Venice. And it proves that Shylock is a Jewish hero, then explores the profound revelations which Shy?lock's positive characters give.
