华中大学理科教育的历史解析

摘　　要：华中大学作为华中地区唯一一所教会大学,因上乘的教学质量,一度被教育界称为"模范大学",其下设的理学院更是为华中大学培养了一批优秀人才,值得后学者关注与研究。从其历史进程来看,华中大学理科教育经历了初成期、推进期、困顿期以及恢复期四个阶段。就其具体办理而言,华中大学理科教育一直坚持"重质不重量"的原则,尤以下述数点最为突出:教师整体素质较高,关注青年教师培养;课程设置由博而专,重视理论联系实际;小规模培养学生,严格教学质量把关。这种"重质不重量"的人才培养原则,于今日高等理科教育的改革与发展也有着重要的现实借鉴意义。Hua Chung College,the only missionary university in central China,is once called the"model university"by the educational circles because of its excellent teaching quality.The Science Institute of Hua Chung College has trained a number of outstanding talents,so it deserves the attention and research of later scholars.From the point of its historical process,the science education of Hua Chung College has gone through four stages,which are the initial stage,the promotion stage,the difficult stage and the recovery stage.From the point of its specific management,the science education of Hua Chung College has always adhered to the principle of attaching importance to quality but not quantity.The following are the most prominent points:the overall quality of teachers is high,and attention is paid to the cultivation of young teachers;the curriculum is arranged from extensive to special and attach importance to linking theory with practice;students are trained on a small scale and under a strict control of teaching.This kind of talent cultivation,which emphasizes quality but not quantity,has important significance for the reform and development of higher science education today.
