摘　　要：毛姆作品中存在着数量众多且形象鲜明的"毛姆式人物"。"毛姆式人物"乐于观察人性却从不介入故事情节的发展,几乎对故事发展没有影响。"毛姆式人物"在毛姆作品中的角色作用有三:链接作品中其他人物、作为接近事件的人和参与事件者。"毛姆式人物"对"人性"的观察和对"情色"的观看是重合的,后者是前者的前提。"毛姆式人物"是毛姆本人作为同性恋者却压抑本人的情欲,从而形成了以"观看"替代"参与"的性行为模式,这种行为模式造成了他作品中的"毛姆式人物"的只观看、不介入。There are a large number of“Maugham-type characters”in Maugham s works,who are willing to observe human nature but never get involved in the story,which has almost no impact on the development of the story.Generally,there are three roles of“Maugham-type characters”in Maugham s works:linking other characters in his works,approaching the event and participating the event.The observation of“human nature”by“Maugham-type characters”coincides with the observation of“eroticism”.In fact,the latter is the premise of the former.The phenomenon of“Maugham-type characters”shows us that Maugham himself,as a homosexual,suppresses his lust,thus forming a sexual behavior mode of“observing”instead of“participating”,which results in the“Maugham-type characters”in his works only observing and not intervening.
