摘 要:洋务运动时"新旧"之争首次爆发,表面看来旧派代表人物倭仁等反对向西方学习,但实际上倭仁对是否应该学习西艺并无明确表态,他所担心的是学习西艺可能带来的基督教进入中国,及由此产生的对儒学和伦理纲常的冲击;这一思考模式到戊戌维新时期依然为旧派人士所采用,王先谦、叶德辉等人明确支持向西方学习,但却无法容忍西教及"康学"对中学的侵蚀。从这种意义上说,旧派并非顽固不化,而是从"保教"的角度在中西之争中为中国传统文化保留一席之地。The controvery between the reform group and the conservative group started in the Yangwu movement.One of the representative figures of the conservative group,Wo Ren,struggled superficially a-gainst learning from the West,but he actually worried about reopen the channel for Christianity to enter Chi-na and the impact that Christianity would brought on Confucianism and Chinese traditional ethics.His way of thinking of lasted till the Wuxu period.W ang Xianqian,Ye Dehui and other conservative scholars sup-ported the movement of learning from the Western technology but they couldn't tolerate the corrosive influ-ence of the alien culture and the doctrine of Kangyouwei,for which regard,the conservative group were not obstinate and unchangeable,they just wanted to protect the Chinese traditional culture.
