摘　　要：通过运用语图叙事,A.S.拜厄特成功地在其小说中将视觉艺术融入文学创作。拜厄特更多是通过"想象的语图叙事"(notional ekphrasis),虚构出小说的情节和人物,借用视觉艺术的创作手法,包括对光、影、色以及构图等的使用,使得文字的描写具有视觉的效果,以实现最生动的故事画面的渲染。拜厄特在女性形象的塑造上参照美杜莎原型,通过语图叙事手法,从多个角度刻画了各类女性形象。她们的善良、美丽和性感代表了美杜莎的正面形象,她们的残忍、复仇和丑陋呈现的是作为受害者的美杜莎。拜厄特笔下的语图叙事打破了传统上男性主宰模式,从艺术批评的视角,以女性写作立场,重点刻画了女性自身的发展、成熟以及对命运的抗争。By the use of ekphrasis,A.S.Byatt has successfully achieved her purpose of fusing visual arts into literary creation in her fiction.In plot construction and character formation,Byatt relies more on "notional ekphrasis".By borrowing the artistic techniques,such as the use of light,shadow,color and pattern in her writing,she renders literary representation visual effect,thus achieving the most appealing literary effects.By the use of ekphrasis and the prototype of Medusa,Byatt has created various kinds of female characters from different perspectives in her fiction.Their kind-heartedness,beauty and sexy appearances are the positive side of Medusa whereas their mercilessness,revengefulness and ugliness share Medusa’s negative attributes.By breaking through the traditionally male-dominating narrative in ekphrasis,Byatt,from the perspective of an art critic and woman writer,lays more emphasis on the female characters’ self-development,maturity and rebellious spirit against fate.
