摘　　要：反讽,作为一种修辞性语言,经常被人们用来间接表达一个人内心的复杂情感。在《雾都孤儿》中,狄更斯通过小说中人物口中的反讽表达给读者提出了一些非常现实的社会问题。狄更斯在小说中所展现的反讽涵盖了言语反讽、情境反讽以及戏剧反讽。他对反讽运用的意义在于他想借此批评《英国济贫法》来触动民情。该研究的目的旨在让读者了解反讽的言外之意,以便帮助他们最终明白狄更斯的写作意图。As a rhetorical language,irony is often used to indirectly express a person’s complex emotions.In Oliver Twist,Dickens puts forward some realistic social problems to the readers through the irony used by the characters.The irony used in this novel includes verbal irony,situational irony and dramatic irony.The significance of his use of irony lies in his intention to touch people’s feelings by criticizing the British poverty relief act.The purpose of this study is to make readers understand the implication of irony,so as to help them understand Dickens’intention of writing.
