On Narrative Reconstruction of Uncle Tom′s Cabin in the Context of Literature Transformation in Late Qing Dynasty

摘  要:小说作为常见的叙事文,其言语表达的主要方式和功能就是叙事。从这一意义上看,理想的小说翻译应是对原文叙事的复制。然而翻译是一种跨文化的交际活动,译者总是在一定的社会文化语境中从事翻译。鉴于此,文章以晚清“救亡启蒙”的社会文化语境为出发点,对比和分析林译本《黑奴吁天录》与原著在叙事方面明显的变化,指出译入语的社会文化语境影响着林纾对原文在叙事方式和内容上的“叙事重构”。同时,林纾正是通过这种“叙事重构”来参与构建晚清的社会生活实践,实现其“保种救国、改良社会”的政治目的。The typical means and function of language in novels,a common narrative,is narration.In this sense,the ideal novel translation should be the reproduction of the original narration.However,translation is a cross-cultural communication,and translators are always confined to certain social and cultural context.Consequently,based on the social and cultural context of the late Qing Dynasty,the paper makes a comparative analysis of Lin′s version of Uncle Tom′s Cabin and the original one in the narration and points out that the social and cultural context of the target language influenced Lin Shu′s narrative reconstruction of the original text in narrative mode and content.At the same time,Lin Shu participated in the construction of social life in the late Qing Dynasty through this kind of narrative reconstruction to achieve its political goals of saving the nation and reforming the society.
