摘　　要：二十世纪五十年代,英国传教士邦斯尔完成的《红楼梦》译本,是历史上第一个120回英文全译本。邦斯尔提出"完整翻译"的基本原则,并在人物姓名英译时灵活采用音译、加注等方法,较好地传达了人物姓名所包含的内涵。由于译者汉语水平有限,加之研究资料匮乏,译文中存在不少漏译、误译之处。客观评价邦斯尔译本的功绩与不足,有利于引起学界对此译作的关注。In 1950 s,the British missionary B.S.Bonsall finished The Red Chamber Dream Hung Lou Meng,the first full English translation of the 120-chapter Chinese novel Hong Lou Meng.B.S.Bonsall puts forward the translation principle"Complete Translation",and adopts translation methods such as transliteration and annotation in translating personal names in the novel,in the hope of conveying the connotative meaning embodied in the names.However,due to the translator’s less-than-satisfactory mastery of Chinese language,and the limitation of reference materials,there are lots of undertranslations and error translation.An objective evaluation of achievements and deficiencies of the English version helps arouse interest to the version among scholars.
