Objective To explore the association between the polymorphism of apolipoprotein E(APOE)with the onset of schizophrenia and cognitive function. Methods The polymorphism of APOE in 200 schizophrenia patients and 167 healthy controls was genotyped by using PCR-DNA sequencing. The cognitive function of all schizophrenia patients was assessed by using Hopkin Verbal Learning Test-Revision,Category Fluency Test,Wisconsin Card Sorting Test,Corsi Block Tapping Test,Connections Test and Continuous Performance Test. Results The genotype distribution and allelic frequency of APOE did not significantly differ between the schizophrenia and control groups(both P>0.05).The 3-digit D score in CPT-IP inε3 allele carriers with APOEε3+genotypes was significantly higher than that in those with APOEε3-genotypes(P<0.05).Conclusion APOE polymorphism is not associated with the incidence of schizophrenia.However,APOEε3+allele may be correlated with the attention function of patients with schizophrenia.
