Response to Chinese Scholars’Discussion on The Global Transformation

摘　　要：本文是对参与本专题讨论的中国学者观点的回应。我们认为,将"现代化"等同于"西方化"或者认为两者是融合的这样的分析视角是错误和有害的。现代性是一系列概念和实践的集合,它们挑战了世界上包括西方世界中的社会在内的"所有"社会。空间、时间和实际情况的不同使得每一个前现代和现代的综合体之间彼此都有显著的不同。就我们的论点对中国国际关系学发展的启示而言,我们建议中国学者将自身历史融入到国际关系的研究叙事中,为更具全球性的国际关系学的建立作贡献。而且中国学者还应该在未来国际秩序构建的争论中作出贡献。我们认为世界正处于去中心化的深度多元主义阶段,近五年来的事实证明我们的判断是准确的,只不过遗憾的是当前世界朝着冲突式深度多元主义方向发展。This paper is a response to the viewpoints of the Chinese scholars who have participated in the discussion.We believe that it is wrong and harmful to equate"modernization"with"westernization"or consider them as overlapping with each other.Modernity is the aggregate of numerous concepts and practices that challenge"all"societies in the world including those in the western world.Due to the difference in space,time and actual condition,there has been a remarkable difference between a pre-modern complex and a modern complex.As to the inspiration of our viewpoints to the development of China’s discipline of international relations,we suggest that Chinese scholars should integrate Chinese history into the research of international relations,contribute to the building of a more global international relations.Chinese scholars should also contribute to the debate over the construction of the future international order.We believe that the world is reaching the stage where the decentred pluralism is taking deep root.The facts in the past five years have confirmed our judgment except that the world is currently moving towards contested deep pluralism.
