English programs at the Chinese universities:Defining features and curriculum reform

摘  要:本文在回顾近些年来我国学界对英语专业定位各种反思的基础上,论证了我国英语专业和人文学科、人文教育的关系,对英语专业"回归人文学科"的观点提出质疑,认同我国外语类专业属于"人文社会科学学科的重要组成部分"的论断。文章进而对英语专业新一轮人才培养方案的修订提出了建议:英语专业应实现培养模式多元化,英语专业培养目标应聚焦特色,英语专业课程设置应突显培养目标导向。Based on the reflections of the positioning of English programs in China in recent years,this paper expounds on the relations of English programs with the humanities and liberal arts education.It argues against the viewpoint that English programs should be put back onto"the right track"of the humanities,and justifies the broader definition of the discipline as"an essential component of the humanities and social sciences".The paper further puts forward suggestions regarding English curriculum reforms:diversity of English programs should be promoted,objectives of English programs should be highly distinctive,and curricula of English programs should be more target-oriented.
