摘　　要：国家形象是特定国家的政治、经济、科技、军事、体育和文化等在国际社会和国民心中形成的镜像,由自塑和他塑共同作用而成。有关国家形象的研究在传播学、比较文学和语言学等领域开展得如火如荼。该文运用系统功能语言学中的及物性系统分析中国的国家形象构建,以《卫报》2000-2020年间涉及中国的报道为语料。研究发现,总的来说,《卫报》描述中国为负责任的大国、影响世界的经济和科技强国以及控制碳排放的大国。该报也对中国的一些议题进行了负面呈现。National image is the image of one country’s politics,economy,science and technology,military,sport and culture in international community and in its own people’s minds.A multitude of studies of China’s national image have been done in such fields as communications,comparative literature and linguistics,most of which are devoted to the study of how American media have constructed China’s national image.American media have an advantage in reporting and interpreting world events.However,British broadsheets such as The Guardian have voiced differently and independently from their American counterparts.As a result,they are also crucial to public opinion and to China’s image in the world.According to the survey conducted by BBC in2012,the UK has acknowledged the strength of China and British media tend to portray an objective picture of China.This paper is intended to focus on The Guardian to examine how China is presented in the UK,as a complement to the previous researches based on American newspapers.Systemic functional grammar maintains that language system corresponds to language function.Transitivity system realizes ideational function;mood system and modality system realize interpersonal function;theme and rheme and information structure realize textual function.Ideational function can interpret the physical world.Transitivity can be construed as a series of choices,through which different processes,participants and circumstances are chosen to convey the writer’s attitude and his hidden ideology.The description of participants,especially what they have done can throw light on which group the newspaper is working for.However,it is argued that the study of power and ideology in newspapers from the perspective of transitivity system is personal and subjective owing to limited data.Corpus techniques can solve this problem by making an exhaustive study of language resources.In this study,Tree Tagger,Ant Conc and self-designed software are employed to extract data.Samples are given to show how transitivit
