蛇杖:医学徽志溯源及使用考辨

摘　　要：在西方的历史中出现了两种样式蛇杖,一种是单蛇蛇杖,它是医神阿斯克勒庇俄斯之杖,在其文化中象征医疗的标志;另一种是双蛇蛇杖,它是商神赫耳墨斯(墨丘利)之杖,象征着财富或者和平止战。作为医学徽志的蛇杖应该是医神阿斯克勒庇俄斯的单蛇蛇杖。对百所医学院校的徽志进行考证,33%的医学院校能够正确使用医学徽志的蛇杖;17%的医学院校未能正确使用医学徽志的蛇杖;50%的医学院校徽志中没有出现蛇杖标志。从中反映了徽志的设计与设计者的理念和院校的历史沿革密切相关。In western history,there appeared two kinds of snake rod.One was the single-snake rod,the Rod of Asclepius,which is the symbol of medicine.The other was the double-snake rod,the Caduceus,which was the rod of the God of the Merchants Hermes,and the symbol of wealth or peace.As a medical symbol,the rod should be the single-snake rod,the Rod of Asclepius.In the study of a hundred medical schools,33%use the rod as their emblem correctly,17%incorrectly,and snake rod is not a part of school emblem in half of the investigated medical schools.The design of the emblem is closely related to the concept of their designers and the history of the universities.
