The Historical Sense in John Updike's “Made in Heaven”

摘　　要：映衬始于大萧条到20世纪70年代近半个世纪的美国社会历史背景,小说《天堂制造》呈现了宏大历史书写和个人言说所传递的充满差异的历史感。当历史书写的宏大叙事和具体而微的个人言说置放在一起时,历史书写不得不接受个人言说对它的扰动和改写。在两者交汇或碰撞的区域产生了一个特定的空间,在这里可以观察到历史感复杂的多样性,看似稳固的历史书写产生了裂隙,显露出其中的错谬。一些个体试图摆脱其支配。在支配与摆脱支配的争斗中,个人言说迫使历史书写发生变形,继而将之置于批判的视角下重新审视,同时也使个体从趋同化中抽离出来,回归自我的本质。Against the background of American socio-history starting from the Great Depression to the l970s,Updike's story"Made in Heaven"conveys the differences of the historical sense via the interactionbetween the historical writing and the individual utterance.When the grand narrating of the former confronts the individual perceiving ofthe latter,the historical writing is disturbed and subject to rewriting,in which the complexities of the historical sense can be viewed,and theestablished historical writing is thus torn apart to show its fallacieswithin and put under re-scrutinization.Therefore,the individual isrendered the possibility of separating himself/herself from its dominantconformity and returning to self-illumination.
