摘　　要：诺里斯的《章鱼》以密瑟尔•斯劳悲剧这一历史事件为写作素材,用史诗般的笔触描绘了小麦农场主与美国铁路垄断资本主义之间为争夺土地而进行的斗争。作为空间资源和空间布局的呈现方式,地图往往成了多层意义的载体。小说借助地图揭示了农场主与铁路垄断集团之间力量的博弈。通过对空间的争夺,作者揭露了社会的不公,同时也探讨了在空间范围内伸张正义,进行阶级斗争的可能性。Frank Norris's The Octopus,with the historical event Mussel Slough Tragedy as the source of writing,depicts the fierce struggle for the farmland between wheat farmers and American railway monopoly capitalism in the form of epic.As a way of presenting the space resources and spatial layout,maps often become a carrier of multi-layered meanings.The novel reveals apparently the competition of power between farmers and railway monopoly groups with the help of maps.Through the competition for space,this novel exposes the injustice of society,and also probes into the possibility of realizing social justice and carrying out class struggle within the space.
