摘　　要：亨利·詹姆斯(1843—1916)的小说《专使》讲述了一个美国中年男子在巴黎的短暂停留。在此期间,他欣赏了欧洲的古典建筑和深厚文化,并结识了形形色色的欧洲人。由此,该小说被称之为旅行文学的典型。本篇从旅行叙事角度出发,集中研究旅行主体、客体以及旅行意义,并进而揭示该小说的主题,即其不单单讨论了文化冲突以及道德价值观问题,更突出了个人在旅行中的成长,特别是观察—想象—发现的成长过程。The Ambassador,written by Henry James(1843-1916),portrays a short stay in Paris of an American middle-aged man.During his visit,he appreciates ancient architectures,experiences profound culture,and gets acquainted with Westerners.Accordingly,it can be recognized as one masterpiece of travel literature.This paper,from the perspective of Journey Narrative,would focus on analyzing the travel subjects and objects as well as significance of the journey,and then reveal the theme of this novel as it never stops at presenting cultural differences or moral values,but to depict a journey to self-growth,from three stages of observation-imagination-discover.
