摘　　要：福克纳在其短篇小说《献给爱米丽的玫瑰》中展现了旧南方贵族小姐爱米丽的伦理困境。爱米丽具有不可抗拒的多重身份——作为旧南方贵族女儿的伦理身份、作为南方淑女的社会身份以及被边缘化的自我身份,这三重身份使爱米丽长期处于父亲、小镇居民和自我监视的阴影之下。这一阴影所投射的伦理困境促使其做出杀死情人并与其共眠数十载这一有悖伦理道德之行为。福克纳聚焦爱米丽的命运沉浮,通过呈现其伦理困境及这一困境所造成的人生悲剧来展现南方文明的崩塌以及爱米丽作为南方玫瑰的凋零。William Faulkner displays the ethical dilemma of Miss Emily,the old southern belle,in A Rose for Emily.Emily has the irresistible multiple identities-her ethical identity as the daughter of old southern aristocracy,her social identity as a southern belle,and her self-identity as a marginalized figure.And these identities position her in the shadow of surveillance of her father,the town residents and herself.The ethical dilemma that this shadow casts causes her to engage in the unethical behaviors of killing her lover and sleeping with his corpse for decades.Faulkner focuses on the ups and downs of Emily’s personal destiny to present the collapse of southern civilization and the inevitable decline of Emily herself as a southern rose through the representation of Emily’s ethical dilemma and her life tragedy that causes.
