摘 要:低龄留学潮已引发社会关注,通过对小留学生在美国学习生活的参与式观察和访谈的实证研究发现,低龄留学潮主要是被“海外留学成功神话”所推动。从神话理论出发,分析中国教育制度、国内外教育资本以及中国家长的面子这三种内驱力如何制造了“留学神话”。“留学神话”裹挟了中国家长和学生对留学的认知,他们没有深入理解中学生到海外留学所要遭遇的生活适应性困境、文化与价值冲突、中西教育制度的差异等因素,由此导致了小留学生在海外留学期间的一系列困境。Young students’ fervor in studying abroad has attracted wide concern in China. By analyzing the data collected by a participatory observation of and interviews with some young Chinese students studying in the United States,we found that young Chinese students’ enthusiasm in studying abroad is basically driven by the "myth of success brought about by going abroad". Based on the myth theory,this paper analyzes how the following three forces have created the myth of studying abroad: i. e.,the Chinese education system,the domestic and foreign educational capital,and Chinese parents’ perception of face. This myth dominates the educational perception of both Chinese parents and their children,who fail to have due understanding of the challenges they will face caused by such factors as the difficulties in daily life,the conflicts in culture and values,and the differences between Chinese and western educational systems. This inadequacy leads to a series of problems the young students will encounter when studying abroad.
