Archaeological relics are the core exhibits of Chinese history museums, and play an important role in realizing the museum’s core functions of collecting, researching, displaying and educating. With the increasing development and improvement of the interpretative concepts in archaeology, methods such as material evidence, contextual display, and related interpretation have been gradually applied in museum exhibitions. However, the interpretative methods based on traditional archaeology is still facing the dilemma between single interpretation and multiple needs, academic thoughts and exhibition philosophy, and scholarly norms and public learning. To well perform cultural communication based on their archaeological relics, history museums should explore an integrated research approach of multiple levels, multiple angles, and multiple disciplines and focus on information decoding, interpretive approaches, and storyline rebuilding so as to meet the diversified needs of museum exhibition and communication.Constructing a cross-disciplinary interpretative model will play a significant role in improving and developing the disciplinary system and enhancing the effect of public communication, which will help to maximize the social value of archaeological relics.
