《庄子》的生态哲学英译研究——以动物隐喻表述为例

摘　　要：以往研究主要围绕《庄子》英译过程中的文学性、宗教、文化及哲学思想的呈现展开,其原文生态哲学的还原与凸显是一个尚未涉及的问题。本文将以此为出发点,根据纽马克提出的7种隐喻翻译方法,对《庄子》3个英译版本中的动物隐喻进行对比,旨在探究不同动物隐喻翻译策略对译文呈现源文本生态价值的效果之差异。研究发现,庄子借动物隐喻言说方式表达了其在自然、社会和精神三个维度的生态哲学,几位译者采用的动物隐喻翻译策略主要涉及在译语中再现同样的隐喻意象、使用明喻替代隐喻、或以改写方式译出隐喻含义等,经对比发现,以保留喻体为前提的翻译手段更能将原文的生态意蕴形象地表达出来,这对以生态思想外译为导向的《庄子》英译实践与研究有所启示。Given the translation of Zhuangzi from Chinese to English,previous studies revolve around the presentation of literary,religious,cultural and philosophical thoughts,but never retrieving and highlighting the ecological philosophy inside.Based on this point,this paper compares the animal metaphors in three English versions of Zhuangzi,according to seven metaphorical translation methods proposed by Newmark,aiming to explore the effect of different translation strategies in reflecting the ecological value of the source text It is found that Zhuangzi expresses his ecological philosophy,by means of animal metaphor,in three dimensions,namely,natural,social and spiritual ones.The translation strategies adopted by translators mainly involve reproducing the same metaphorical image in the target language,using simile instead of metaphor,or translating metaphorical meaning by rewriting.Through comparison,it is obvious that the translation method based on the premise of retaining the vehicle is more capable to vividly express the ecological meaning of the original text,which may give some enlightenment to the practice and research of the Zhuangzi translation guided by the demonstration of ecological ideas.
