摘 要:纵观西方建筑史,“装饰”存在着争议。文艺复兴之前艺术家们热衷于装饰,17世纪中叶之后,艺术家们拒绝装饰。然而在这样的时代背景下,建筑师戈特弗里德·森佩尔(Gottried van Semper,1803-1879)却力挺装饰,极其详尽地论述了装饰的重要性,不过由于其理论晦涩,森佩尔不但被同时代的人所误会,更是被20世纪经典现代主义所不恭。那么装饰应该被置于何种位置才更加合理?文章将结合材料问题——一个建筑学的基本问题讨论建筑装饰的往事今生。Throughout the history of Western Architecture,there has always been a controversial phenomenon on the decoration.Before the Renaissance,the artists were keen to decorate.However,after the middle of the 17th century,the artists refused the decorations.Nevertheless,under such a background,Gottfried van Sempe(1803—1879)discussed the importance of decoration in great detail.But because of his obscure theories,Sempe was not only misunderstood by his contemporaries,but also despised by the Classical Modernism of the 20th century.So where should the decoration be placed to make it more reasonable?This essay will discuss the question of architectural decoration under the question of Material,a basic problem of architecture.
