《嘉莉妹妹》中的报纸意象研究

摘　　要：报纸是构成德莱赛作品中丰富寓意的重要元素之一。本文认为,在《嘉莉妹妹》中,德莱赛把报纸视为商品社会中人际关系物化的象征、美国消费文化和“美国梦”的代表符号以及决定社会个体命运的意识形态和社会力量。通过对报纸意象的运用,《嘉莉妹妹》阐述了决定人类命运的社会现实,同时也深刻揭露了商品社会中人类的异化和“美国梦”的虚幻本质。Newspaper appears frequently in the works of Theodore Dreiser and it is one of the sources for the works’profound meaning.This article argues that in Dreiser’s Sister Carrie,newspaper was the symbol for the materialized relations of commercial society,American consumption culture and American Dream as well as the ideology and social forces which determine individual’s fate.Through newspaper,Sister Carrie illustrates the social reality that determines human destiny and exposes the alienation of humankind in the commercial society and the illusion of American Dream.
