In China, 800 or 1 000 m is the conventional method to evaluate students′ cardiorespiratory endurance. This method is widely criticized for not accurately assessing endurance at the individual level and for discouraging students to exercise scientifically. Psychologically, performing the 800 or 1 000 m running test bears considerable burden to students, and it dwindles students′ interest in exercising and physical activity. Further, if not administered properly, the 800 or 1 000 m tests may lead to tragic accidents. This paper proposes using anaerobic threshold run to replace the 800 or 1 000 m test to measure students′ cardiorespiratory endurance. Based on thorough literature review, this paper found that the "anaerobic threshold run" can accurately assess students′ endurance. It can be administered on treadmills or playground. Teachers can easily manage the testing intensity from low to high progressively. The test has the potential to enable students to exercise scientifically, experience joy, and increase interest.
