摘　　要：彼得·凯里是澳大利亚当代著名小说家,新派作家代表,其作品斩获布克奖、英联邦作家奖等多项大奖,其创作于1974年的短篇小说《美国梦》是其早期作品中的名篇。以小说人物面对美国文化的两难困境为切入点,结合文化霸权理论,揭示了20世纪70年代美国文化对澳大利亚的深刻影响,由此引发了小说家对澳大利亚身份认同构建的反思和担忧。Peter Carey,a famous contemporary Australian novelist and a representative one of Australia new school writers,has been awarded many prizes like Booker Prize,Commonwealth Writers prizes,etc.His short story American Dreams,written in 1974,is one of his outstanding early works.This novel focuses on the dilemma of characters when facing with the American culture,and reveals the profound influence of American culture on Australia in the 1970s based on the theory of cultural hegemony,which triggers the novelist’s refl ection on and worry about the construction of Australian identity under such infl uence.
