Objective To investigate the clinical value of serum and cerebrospinal fluid IL-6 and MMP-9 levels in children with BICE.Methods A total of 42 children with BICE who were hospitalized for the first time were selected as the observation group, and they were divided into 2 groups according to the number of convulsions.Another 42 children with mild gastroenteritis who were hospitalized during the same period were selected as the control group. The levels of IL-6 and MMP-9 in serum and cerebrospinal fluid of children in each group were detected. Results The levels of IL-6 and MMP-9 in serum and cerebrospinal fluid in the observation groups were significantly higher than those in the control group(t=8.56-13.71,P<0.01),and the levels of the two in Observation Group 2 were higher than those in Observation Group 1(t=10.80-37.40,P<0.01).The serum levels of IL-6 and MMP-9 in the two observation groups during the recovery period were significantly lower than those in the acute phase, but the reduction in Observation Group 1 was greater than that in Observation Group 2(P<0.05).Conclusion The changes in serum and cerebrospinal fluid IL-6 and MMP-9 levels in children with BICE can reflect the degree of brain damage and provide a basis for clinical diagnosis and treatment.
