摘　　要：欧文·威斯特的小说《弗吉尼亚人》塑造了新型的西部牛仔形象,是一部里程碑式的西部小说。牛仔弗吉尼亚人捍卫正义,勇敢乐观,侠骨柔情,体现了美国西部边疆精神。小说以弗吉尼亚人的创业经历与爱情故事为主线,阐释了东西部文化碰撞的内涵,抒发人与自然同呼吸共生存的情感,开创了全新的情节模式与创作主题。Owen West s novel,The Virginian,is a landmark in the history of the Western novel which creates a new cowboy image.Cowboy Virginians are justice defenders,who are brave,optimistic,chivalrous and tender-hearted.They embody the spirit of American western frontier.The novel takes the entrepreneurial experience and love of Virginians as the mainline and explains the connotation of the cultural collision between the east and the west in America.The Virginian expresses the coexistence of man and nature and creates a new plot pattern and creative theme.
