英语词汇语音象似性研究  

A Study on English Vocabulary’s Phonetic Iconicity

摘　　要：基于认知语言学象似性理论,本文对英语词汇语音和意义之间的理据关联进行了探讨。研究认为,英语词汇语音和意义之间存在镜像、模拟和隐喻三种象似性。镜像语音象似性具有一元性,体现了词汇语音和表征对象之间的直接映照;模拟语音象似性具有二元性,体现了词汇发音特征和表征动作状况、事物状态之间的间接对应;隐喻语音象似性具有三元性,体现了词汇语音表征对象和另一事物在认知主体心理上的相似联想。在这三类象似性中,词汇语音和意义之间的相似程度从镜像到模拟再到隐喻逐步降低,而所涉及的认知活动及认知努力则逐步增加。This study probes into the motivation between English words’phonetics and their meanings from the perspective of iconicity.It finds that there are three kinds of iconicity between certain English words’phonetics and their meanings,namely image iconicity,mimic iconicity and metaphor iconicity.Image phonetic iconicity is the direct reflection of the denoting meaning of the word in its sound.Mimic phonetic iconicity is the analogic resemblance between the phonetic feature of the word and its meaning.Metaphor phonetic iconicity is the associative resemblance between the thing closely related to the word’s sound and another thing.There is a gradual decline in the degree of iconicity from image iconicity to mimic iconicity,then to metaphoric iconicity,while the cognitive activities and efforts involved increase at the same time.
