摘  要:21世纪美国高校外语专业发展面临诸多难题:外语教育政策缺乏持续性;外语专业面临裁撤的危机;外语学院内部教师之间缺乏交流与合作;低年级与高年级课程在教学方法与教学内容上缺乏延续性与衔接性;缺乏明确的专业培养目标。针对这些问题,美国现代语言协会于2007年发布了一份报告,题目为《外语与高等教育:变革世界的新构建》,针对美国高校外语专业改革提出多项倡议。多个高校外语专业遵循报告中的倡议进行改革,并取得一定成效。现代语言协会的外语教育改革倡议可以为中国高校外语专业改革提供借鉴。Foreign language education in American universities faces many difficulties and problems in the twenty-first century. Foreign language education policies and its development tend to be lack of consistency and some departments of foreign languages in the universities are confronted with the risk of being eliminated. Teachers from different areas of study in the foreign language departments do not have much communication or cooperation and there is a lack of continuity in both the teaching methods and content between the lower-level language courses and the higher-level literature courses. Besides,there are no definite objectives for the professional education of foreign languages. Faced with all these problems,Modern Language Association(MLA)issued a report in 2007 entitled Foreign Languages and Higher Education:New Structures for a Changed World and put forward many specific proposals for the reform in foreign language education in American universities. Until now,many foreign language education departments have followed those proposals with curricular reform and have made great progress. It is believed that the proposals in the MLA report will also provide guidance for the development and the reform of foreign language education in colleges and universities of China.
