Objective To evaluate the efficacy and safety of statins for major depressive disorder(MDD)by systematic evaluation and Meta-analysis.Methods Pudmed,Embase,Cochrane,CNKI,Wanfang database were searched for randomized controlled studies(RCTs)of statins as an adjuvant therapy to MDD patients. The main outcomes were the change of Hamilton depression rating scale(HDRS)score, secondary outcomes were the incidence of adverse events.Bias risk assessment tool of Cochrane collaboration was used to assess research quality, and the data was analyzed with RevMan5.3 software. Results 5 RCTs included 288 participants with MDD.Meta-analysis showed that compared with the control group, statins improved MDD significantly[standardized mean difference(SMD)=-0.76,95%CI=(-1.00,-0.52),P<0.001],cholesterol and triglycerides decreased significantly, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).There was no significantly significant difference in the incidence of adverse events between groups(P>0.05).Conclusion:Statins can effectively improve MDD with high safety, but can not play a role in the rapid anti-depression.
