Stroke is the main cause of death and disability world-widely.Ischemic stroke is the main sub-type of stroke.Timely recovery or improvement of local cerebral blood supply is essential to improve the outcome of stroke and functional recovery after stroke. The recovery of ischemic stroke largely depends on the proper recovery of blood flow through angiogenesis. The newly formed blood vessels can increase cerebral blood flow, thereby increasing the amount of oxygen and nutrients transported to the affected brain tissue.Angiogenesis is strictly controlled by many key angiogenic factors in the central nervous system.Studies have shown that acupuncture can promote angiogenesis by regulating angiogenesis regulatory factors such as vascular endothelial growth factor, HIF-1,bFGF and Ang-2.It is an effective method to treat experimental ischemic stroke by promoting angiogenesis through various ways targeting angiogenesis factors. This paper reviewed the research progress of gene expression related to cerebral angiogenesis after stroke and the role of acupuncture in angiogenesis after stroke.
