microbial secondary metabolites are playing an increasingly important role, researches on the improvement of secondary metabolite production has become a hot spot.As an environmental stress factor,pH stress is becoming an effective strategy to improve the production capacity of microbial fermentation. In this paper, the recent findings were reviewed about the improving effects of pH stress on microbial fermentation capacity, and the influences of secondary metabolite biosynthesis were introduced by pH stress, which will contribute to the future researches on the improvement of microbial fermentation production and further reveal the relevant molecular mechanisms.Another purpose of this review is to combine pH stress with adaptive laboratory evolution to improve the ability of microorganisms to synthesize secondary metabolites at genetic level, and to further expand the application of pH stress in microbial fermentation and breeding.
