摘　　要：The international community agrees on the need to combat domestic violence.To this end,different countries have attempted to draft legislation with varying degrees of success.Policing against domestic violence in the United States is implemented through multi-agency violence control,supported by improved comprehensive community-centered policing strategies.This could serve as a model for China in optimizing police intervention in the curbing of domestic violence.Ideological differences separate the Chinese and American police in their intervention approaches to domestic violence.These include differences in social interpretation of domestic violence,modes of intervention,law enforcement norms,and multi-agency cooperation.Chinese society needs to change its perception of domestic violence as a matter of family disputes,in the context of traditional family values.Instead,it should establish a modern sense of awareness regarding domestic violence and refine the procedures for police intervention.Ultimately,this will strengthen the role of the wider society in curtailing domestic violence.
