生态翻译学视角下航海典籍《瀛涯胜览》米氏英译本研究

摘　　要：英国汉学家米尔斯的《瀛涯胜览》英译本堪称向西方译介中国古代航海历史与海洋文化的汉学巨制。为了解米尔斯在英译航海典籍的过程中如何进行语言维、文化维、交际维的适应性选择与转换,从生态翻译学理论视角进行探讨。研究结果显示,通过精准传递原文词、句、篇层面丰富的语言信息、独特的文化内涵以及多维的交际内容和意图,米尔斯成功实现了《瀛涯胜览》英译本适应性选择的“三维转换”目标。典籍英译研究应该关注多元翻译主体共生、多重翻译内容和意图共现、多维翻译方法共用,以提升中国传统文化的国际传播效果。The English translation of Ying-yai Sheng-lan“the Overall Survey of the Ocean s Shores”by British sinologist J.V.G.Mills can be regarded as a masterpiece of Chinese Studies introducing to the western readership traditional Chinese navigation and maritime culture.This paper,based on eco-translatology,intends to discuss how Mills made his adaptations and transformations from linguistic,cultural and communicative dimensions when rendering the above-mentioned Chinese nautical classics into English.The research results indicate that Mills obtained his translation objectives of“three-dimensional adaptations and transformations”in his translation by accurately expressing the source-language linguistic messages,the unique cultural connotations and multiple communicative content and intentions.The insights drawn from Mill s English translation are as follows:in the English translation studies of Chinese Classics,due attention should be given to such key issues as collaborative functioning of multiple translation agents,multi-faceted coexistence of translation content and intentions,and appropriate use of diversified translation methods,for the purpose of effective international communication of traditional Chinese culture.It is hoped that the present study can shed light on the academic research on translation of Chinese sci-tech classics and Sino-foreign cultural exchanges.
