摘  要:赵元任先生(1892-1982)是著名的语言学家和语言教学家。他曾于1938-1939年在美国夏威夷大学和1953-1956年在美国加州大学伯克利分校两次开设过古代汉语课程。在此期间,赵元任编写了专门的教材,全书共分为四部分,包括:汉字部首表、语音表、课文和附录。教材的编写体现出显著的结构主义语言学特点,重视对词语和句型的复现;课文选文专于散文,篇幅短小,内容符合中外共识价值观;重视对汉字的认读和书写;并且将语言与文化教学明确区分为两部分。教材编写合理,可用性强,对北美的古代汉语教学产生了较大的影响,对解决现今学界对外古代汉语教材编写中选文、编排、注释、练习等方面存在的关键性问题,对改进对外古代汉语教学方法、提升对外古代汉语教学质量大有裨益。Yuanren Chao(1892-1982)is a famous linguist and language teaching expert.In his Chinese language teaching practice,he taught ancient Chinese course twice at the University of Hawaii from 1938 to 1939 and at the University of California,Berkeley from 1953 to 1956.During these two periods,he compiled special teaching materials for the course,which consists of four parts,namely,List of Radicals,Comparative Tables of G.R.and the Wade System,Main Text and Appendix.The textbook pays attention to the repetition of words and sentence patterns,which embodies the characteristics of Structuralist linguistics.The texts are all prose,which are short and accord with the common values of China and foreign countries.It also attaches great importance to reading and writing Chinese characters,and clearly divides language and culture teaching into two parts.The textbook is reasonable in compilation with high effectiveness in practice,which has a great impact on the teaching of ancient Chinese in North America.It has a great value in solving some critical problems in compilation ancient Chinese textbooks for foreigners nowadays.Moreover,it is of great benefit to the improvement of ancient Chinese teaching methods and the quality of teaching ancient Chinese to foreign students.
