Human papillomavirus(HPV) infection is associated with a range of diseases. In particular, high-risk HPV is a main pathogenic factor of the promotion and development of genital tumors and skin tumors. HPV-positive cell lines are in vitro cell models for early study of HPV characteristics, especially oncogenic characteristics. Although the emergence of in vitro infected skin mucosal cell lines has promoted the research process of HPV infected in vitro cell models in recent years, the full infectious life cycle cannot be established in cell culture at present since HPV’s special biological characteristics and the dependence of replication and proliferation on epithelial differentiation. Hence, the occurrence and development of organotypic culture models can simulate the infection process of HPV virus in mucosa in order to provide better models for researching HPV infection and therapeutic drugs. In this paper, the progress of HPV infected skin mucosal cell models are reviewed.
