许译《唐诗三百首》数字翻译策略研究  

On the translating strategies of numerals in Xu Yuanchong’s 300 Tang Poems

摘　　要：数字在唐诗中有着独特的美学意义与文化功能,数字翻译的准确与否在一定程度上影响着诗歌译文质量的优劣。诗歌中的数字不可全部照数翻译,而应根据数字在唐诗中的具体作用选择翻译策略。数字在诗歌中可“实指”,交代时间、季节、年龄等;也可“虚指”,夸张地表达数量的“多”“少”及“对比”等意义,还可以表示特定的文化意义。许渊冲教授在其翻译的《唐诗三百首》中,采用了照数直译、转换性“化”译、叠词翻译和省略等翻译策略进行数字翻译,从而实现了诗歌翻译的“形美”“意美”“音美”。Numerals have enjoyed a unique aesthetic meaning and cultural function in the Tang Dynasty poems.The translation of the numerals,to some degree,greatly affects the quality of the poem translation.Therefore,the numerals in poems should not all be translated according to the numerical meaning.Translating strategies need to be selected according to the“meanings”the numerals are creating in the context.The numerals can have“literal meaning”indicating the time,season or age,“metaphorical meaning”exaggerating“abundance”,“scarcity”or“contrast”and“cultural meaning”carrying specific cultural reference.In the 300 Tang Poems translated by Pro.Xu Yuanchong,numerals are translated based on his principle of“Three Conversions”.The translating techniques like literal translation,conversion guided adaptation,optimized reduplicative expressions and omission are applied to achieve his purpose of the“Three Beauties”of the translated poems.
