摘　　要：叶凯蒂《晚清政治小说:一种世界性文学类型的迁移》是西方学者以跨文化视角研究晚清政治小说的著作。该书将晚清政治小说视为一种世界性文学类型迁移的产物,重点考察了两个问题:一是政治小说在欧美的生成及其向东亚的迁流;二是这一文学类型与中国语境互动过程中的重塑策略,并由此探讨文学类型迁移的动力机制。然而,由于跨文化互动的理想预设及文化身份的异域差异,作者的研究有较多偏颇之处,不仅对政治小说的内涵在欧洲与东亚语境中的差别有所疏忽,也对晚清政治小说与中国传统文学资源间的关系失于考察。此外,书中将政治小说的政治性指向国内矛盾,有意回避了近代中国在世界史中的面貌。因此该书整体上呈现出理论预设性、视角外置性和情感偏向性的特征,体现出西方学者在研究中国文化时流露出的"他者"心态。Western scholar Catherine Yeh’s The Chinese Political Novel: Migration of World Genre is an academic monograph regarding the Chinese political novel in the late Qing dynasty from a cross-cultural perspective. In the book, the author takes the Chinese political novel as a migration of world genre, focusing on two issues: one is the core of political novel formed and developed in European and American countries and its migration to East Asia;the other is an investigation of the strategies as to how the genre was re-shaped in the Chinese climax and a discussion of the mechanism by which literary genres migrated. But because of the idealized presupposition of cross-cultural interaction and the difference of cultural identity, there are quite biased aspects in the research. It, on the one hand, ignored the main differences of the connotations of political novel between the local literary-political context and European-American countries;on the other hand, it put less stress on the relationship between the sources on the genre and Chinese ancient culture. In particular, the political character of the genre is only targeted at the contradictions inside China, instead of the whole outlook of modern China in the world. Generally, the book is characterized by a theoretical presupposition, external perspective and affective bias, reflecting the “other” attitude of western scholars when they study Chinese culture.
