摘　　要：狄百瑞是西方"新儒家"的代表人物。狄氏一生努力推动并促成了美国中国学对中国思想系统内部概念的研究,将中国传统思想引入西方乃至世界视野,提升了中国文化的世界性意义。狄百瑞的"新儒家"思想体系与现代性息息相关,现代政治运动与思潮是狄百瑞学术研究的根本推动力;狄百瑞对中国传统进行研究,促成符合现代性观念的中国传统人文价值与西方价值的兼容、统一,最终落脚于解决世界范围的现代性困境问题。William Theodore De Bary is the representative figure of the Western Neo-Confucianism. His efforts contributed to the study of internal concepts in Chinese ideological system by American Sinology, successfully introduced Chinese traditional thoughts into the whole world, and enhanced the global significance of Chinese culture. His "Neo-Confucianism" ideology is closely related to the modernity. Meanwhile, modern political movement and ideological trend are the fundamental driving force of his academic research. According to De Bary’s work, the value composition of Chinese traditional humanity, which conforms to the concept of modernity, was led to the compatibility and unity with western values, while the ultimate goal of his efforts is to solve the worldwide dilemma of modernity.
