摘　　要：19世纪后半叶至20世纪中期,中国西北诸省历经政治动荡与社会变迁,也成为中外各方势力不断角逐的舞台。海外的探险家、传教士、记者纷至沓来,中国内地的知识精英也逐渐意识到西北的战略意义与民族文化价值,掀起“到西北去”的开发热潮。他们当中的很多人都曾用照相机或电影摄影机,记录下西北社会的某些生活片段与历史事件,并将这段记忆保存在影像资料之中。时隔数十载甚至一个多世纪之后,这些散落于世界各地的照片或电影片段,形成了一种兼具宏观叙事与微观描写的影像文献资料,是当代中国人理解西北社会文化演进历程的重要路径,也亟待学界展开进一步研究。From the second half of the 19 th century to the middle of the 20 th century,many provinces in Northwest China experienced political turmoil and social changes,and became the arena for constant competition between Chinese and foreign forces.Overseas explorers,missionaries,and journalists came in droves,and intellectual elites in Chinese mainland gradually realized the strategic significance and ethnic cultural value of the Northwest,and set off a development boom of “going to the Northwest”.Many of them have used cameras or movie cameras to record certain life fragments and historical events in northwest society,and saved those memories in videos.After a lapse of decades or even more than a century,these photos or film fragments scattered around the world have formed an image document system with both macro narrative and micro description,and become an important path for contemporary Chinese to understand the evolution of northwest society and culture,which also urgently needs further research in the academic circles.
