英汉语的适听适视特质及对语境文化的影响

摘　　要：从语音、语调以及语言结构上看,英语本质上是一种“听音知意”的听觉语言,不仅音节丰富、音调多变、音色丰满、音域宽广、语调灵活,而且句式结构的延绵与勾连体现了声音的一维线性特征,具有适听特质,因而塑造了英语文化的低语境性。与英语不同,汉语本质上是一种“望文见像”的视觉语言,汉语的图画或象形本源赋予了汉语从单字到篇章的留白空间甚至空间变换与倒置的可能,显示出极强的视觉特征,具有适视特质,从而促成了汉语文化的高语境性,甚至受汉语影响的整个汉语文化圈都属于高语境文化。From the perspectives of pronunciation, intonation and language structure, English is an auditory language, with its plentiful syllables, variable tones, full timbres and flexible intonations. In sentence structure, its coherence and cohesion shows the linear feature of sound. Thus, it is suitable for listening, which contributes to the low contextuality of the English culture. Unlike English, Chinese is a visual language by its nature. Its origin of paintings or pictographs makes it easy to change the order of words or omit some part of its components, just like the white space left on Chinese traditional paintings.Therefore, it is good for reading, which determines the high contextuality of the Chinese culture and that of other cultures influenced by the Chinese culture.
