摘　　要：拜伦的三幕诗剧《该隐》取材圣经,就该隐杀弟的有关经文衍化为一部关乎存在的震撼心灵的光辉诗篇,主题肃穆庄严、格调苍凉沉郁,尤其洋溢着哲学韵致,可谓哲理诗剧《曼弗雷德》的姊妹篇。诗人展开浪漫主义的翅翼,又以理性的深思熟虑、缜密的情理逻辑、具体的艺术形象,究索宇宙与时间、上帝与人、生命与永恒、死亡与不朽、善与恶、爱与恨、知识与罪愆等诸多形而上问题,亘古而弥新、深邃且无尽,铸成极其伟大的悲剧品格。The story of Byron’s poetical drama Cain is taken from the Bible.Byron transforms Cain’s murder of his brother Abel into a soul-shattering grand poem about human existence.With a solemn theme,a gloomy style,and much philosophical charm,this work is a companion volume of Byron’s another verse drama-Manfred.Combining Romantic imagination with rational thinking,the poet creates many vivid artistic images,and he explores many metaphysical issues in this poem,such as the universe and time,God and human being,life and eternity,death and immortality,goodness and evil,love and hate,knowledge and sin,etc,whose profundity and eternity form its great tragic character.
