摘 要:目前,人们对于海归学者的期待与理解多停留在视其“回流”为终极回归的阶段,而鲜有对海归学者在“回流后”保持跨国流动现象展开讨论。论文从虚拟跨国离散的视角,重新审视“回流”与“回归”的区别,以人文与社会科学领域海归学者的跨国联系与工作实践为例,对海归人员构建社会归属感、认同感与身份认同方式进行分析,探讨在全球化、网络化时代“虚拟跨国离散”的新内涵与特点,阐述其跨越地缘、跨越时空、跨越社会文化边界的跨界性、身份认同的疏离性以及跨国学术空间的虚拟性。旨在推动对其他虚拟跨国离散人群的经历展开探讨并进行比较研究。Recent years have witnessed a steady increase in foreign-trained Chinese PhD students return to China working in higher education institutions.Existing literature and public discourse on such returnees’adaptation in China tend to express a view of their return as a permanent settlement and final stop of their migration journey.There is limited discussion on their continued transnational activities after the return.This paper aims to re-examine the nuances between return migration and assorted ways of belonging through a theoretical lens of virtual transnational diaspora.Based on transnational connections and practices of foreign-trained Chinese academics in the fields of social sciences and humanities,the paper analyzes returned academics’construction of social and cultural belonging as well as their multiple identities.It proposes a new concept of“virtual transnational diaspora”in the digital age with a summary of its three prominent characteristics:trans-crossing of geographical,spatial,and sociocultural boundaries;de-centralization of identity construction,and virtuality of transnational academic space.This study adds a transnational perspective to the discussions of“brain gain”,“brain drain”,“brain circulation”,and other forms of talent mobility.
