Vicia faba seeds were treated with different concentrations of copper alone(T1)and with copper combining 20 mg/l ascorbic acid(T2).The seed germination, radicle length, germ length, root vitality, root tip cell mitotic index, chromosome aberration rate and micronucleus rate of Vicia faba were compared to study the remission effect of ascorbic acid on seed germination and root tip cell damage under copper stress. The results showed that:1.In T1 and T2 groups, with the increase of copper ion concentration, copper showed certain inhibitory effect on the seed germination, early growth, and root tip cells of Vicia faba.2.Compared with that in T1 group, the seed germination, radicle length, germ length, root vitality, and root tip cell mitotic index in T2,have increased to varying degrees, and the distortion rate and micronucleus rate have decreased to some extent. Therefore,in the experimental concentration range, ascorbic acid can alleviate the effect of copper stress on seed germination and root tip cell damage of Vicia faba.
