论蔡锷对广西“驱蔡风潮”的应对

摘　　要：“驱蔡风潮”是清末广西新军编练中发生的重大事件,也是蔡锷人生轨迹的重要转折点,因而历来是蔡锷研究的重点之一。在过往有关“驱蔡风潮”的研究中,蔡锷似乎置身事外、毫无作为。但新发现的史料表明,蔡锷在事件中并未向恶势力低头,而是奋起反抗,撰写了长达两万余字的辩驳书,逐条批驳了广西咨议局强加在其头上的种种罪名,最后证明了自己的清白。蔡锷在“驱蔡风潮”中表现出来的不向恶势力低头、敢于抗争的勇气和胆略,为他后来成功地发动云南“重九”起义和反袁护国起义,从而奠定其在中国近代史上的重要地位,打下了坚实的基础。新发现的蔡锷的辩驳书,对于研究蔡锷在广西练兵期间的活动乃至清末广西新军编练史亦具有重要的文献价值和学术价值。“The agitation of expelling Cai E”was a major event in the new army training in Guangxi province in the late Qing Dynasty,and also an important turning point in Cai E’s life.So it has always been a focus of the study on Cai E.In the previous studies,Cai E seems to have stayed out of the way and done nothing.However,newly discovered historical materials show that Cai E did not bow to the evil forces in the incident.He rose up against them and wrote a 20,000-word defense,refuting each and every charge imposed on him by the Guangxi Advisory Bureau and finally proving his innocence.Cai E’s courage and boldness in resisting the forces of evil instead of bowing to them,as demonstrated in this event,laid a solid foundation for his subsequent determination to launch the Yunnan Chongjiu uprising in 1911 and the anti-Yuan(Yuan Shikai)uprising in 1915,thus establishing his important position in modern Chinese history.The newly discovered rebuttal by Cai E is of important literature value and academic value for the research on Cai E’s activities while he was in Guangxi province and even the history of new army training in Guangxi in the late Qing dynasty.
