目的论视角下《菜根谭》中四字词语的英译策略研究

摘　　要：随着中国国际地位的日益提高,一些重大国际活动相继在中国举行,许多国家都开始出现了“汉语热”。“汉语热”的出现,代表着汉语正在日趋国际化。《菜根谭》作为文化瑰宝,名扬海外,四字词语使用居多。四字词语作为汉语一种具有独特结构和民族色彩的语言表达,在翻译过程中,选用适宜的翻译策略和翻译方法显得尤为重要。以目的论三原则为指导,不难发现《菜根谭》英译本中,四字成语的英译多采用了归化和异化两种翻译策略;运用直译的翻译方法和直译与省译相结合的方法,不仅忠实于原文,还注重读者的理解,从而更好地实现翻译的跨文化交际目的。With the constant increase of China’s international influence, many major international events have been hosted in China, and in the international world, there have been growing interests in studying the Chinese language. As a cultural treasure, Tending the Roots of Wisdom has been well-known abroad, and four-character words are mostly used. Chinese four-character words, a particular form of expression of Chinese, mostly have intricate structure and distinct national features. It is important for translators to choose appropriate translation strategies and methods to render the four-character words. From the perspective of Skopos Theory and guided by the three rules, it is not difficult to find that in the English translation of Tending the Roots of Wisdom, four-character words mostly adopt two translation strategies: domestication and foreignization;for translation methods: using literal translation, and the method of combining literal translation and omission. The translations are faithful to the source text, and show consideration for readers’ reading habits, so as to better realize the purpose of cross-cultural communication in translation.
