荀子“从道不从君”的思想探析--以道统论为中心

摘  要:荀子提出“从道不从君”的思想,以仁义礼之道作为社会的终极价值和处理君臣、君民关系的标准。强调君主的权位应服从于仁义礼之道,这是荀子对儒家道统思想的重要贡献。并把“从道不从君”与君主得道必须得人联系起来,提出立君为民,以对民的态度作为判断君主是否符合道、是明君还是暗君的标准。荀子“从道不从君”的思想颇具特色,在历史上产生了重要影响,成为儒家道统论的一个显著特点,而具有一定的制约君权的意义。Xunzi put forward the idea of“Follow the Dao,not the Lord”,and took the doctrine of benevolence,righteousness and propriety as the ultimate value of society and the standard of dealing with the relationship between monarch,minister and people.It is Xunzi's important contribution for Confucian orthodoxy that the sovereign's position should be subordinate to the doctrine of benevolence,justice and propriety.It also links the idea of“Follow the Dao,not the Lord”with the monarch who gains the Dao must gain people and proposes to establish a monarch for people.The monarch's attitude towards people is the criterion to judge whether he conforms to the Dao and whether he is an“enlightened lord”or“benighted lord”.Xunzi's idea of“Follow the Dao,not the Lord”is quite distinctive,which had an important influence in history,and becomes a prominent feature of the Confucian orthodoxy with certain significance of restricting the monarch's power.
