In order to explore the profound connotation of the theory of ‘excessive heat leads to swelling’ in the Huangdi Neijing, and to answer the theoretical question why excessive heat leads to ‘swelling’, Based on the theory of Xuanfuqi-liquid, the pathogenesis evolution of ‘excessive heat leads to swelling’ was explained. The direct pathogenic factor of ‘swell’syndrome is that heat impairs Xuanfu-qi-liquid, the pathogenesis evolution of ‘excessive heat leads to swelling’ was explained. The direct pathogenic factor of ‘swell’ syndrome is that heat impairs Xuanfu, and the core pathogenesis characteristics of ‘swell’syndrome is that Xuanfu closing, heat qi depression and water dampness flooding. Taking the diagnosis and treatment of ‘Feng Shui’ and ‘yang-edema’ as examples, the clinical application value of the theory of ‘excessive heat leads to swelling’ was further demonstrated.
