Saving Fish From Drowning(2005), by writing about the historical hurt and tragic memory of a southern Lan Na tribe, and combining history with reality in a unique narrative angle of ghosts, represents the historical wounds of Chinese American group. From the history of the Lan Na tribe in the novel, one can see the traces of Chinese American history-the official exclusion, oppression, discrimination and violence, and etc, and the desire of the excluded group for official recognition and a return to the mainstream culture. Through the historical narrative of the southern Lan Na tribe, the author intends to make noise for the marginal group: history mixed with imagination, time and space misplaced, in a way that enables the work to reproduce and revise history, breaking the injustice of historical silence towards and ignorance of Chinese Americans and finding back the lost right of the ethnic minority to speak, so that one can find the latter-day metaphor for the Chinese American history in the series of encounters of the southern Lan Na tribe in order to subvert the official historical narrative of America, reconstruct the Chinese history and awaken the ethnic consciousness.
