摘　　要：本文试图脱离德里达对档案的解读框架,转向关注作为遗物的“阿斯彭文稿”。遗物包括纪念品和名人文物,分别对应于个人记忆和历史记忆。通过承载个人记忆的纪念品,詹姆斯表达了对信件的私密性和物质性以及个体隐私的关注。而在叙述者对文稿狂热追寻的背后,是作者对阿斯彭的文学名声和美国人记忆遗产的思考。小说的结尾揭示了纪念碑超越时间的物质性以及画像作为视觉记忆承载物的特殊性。This paper moves away from Derrida’s framework of reading the archive and turns to focus on the relics in The Aspen Papers.Aspen’s relics include mementoes and celebrity artifacts,corresponding to individual and historical memory,respectively.Through Juliana’s attitude toward the mementos that carry personal memories,James expresses his concern for the intimacy and materiality of the letters and the privacy of the individual.And behind the narrator’s frenzied pursuit of the papers are the author’s more constructive reflection on literary fame and,indeed,American’s historical memory.The novel’s conclusion reveals the materiality of the monument beyond time and the particular nature of the portrait as a bearer of visual memory.
