摘  要:晚清是中国女子教育从传统向现代转型的时期,当时来华外国人见证了这一过程。在中国传统社会中,女性的生活空间基本囿于家庭,学校教育与女性无缘,她们主要在家学习相夫教子所需的道德与生活技能。随着西方妇女解放思潮的传入,女性自我意识觉醒。她们开始以各种形式接受新式教育,学习内容突破了“家庭”的范畴,尝试走向社会。这些通过“异域之眼”留下的记录为我们审视晚清时期中国的女子教育提供了新种视角。Chinese women’s education changed from tradition to modernity in the late Qing Dynasty, and foreigners recorded what they witnessed on women’s education in China. During that long-dragged traditional period, there was no opportunity for Chinese women to receive schooling education, since they had to stay at home to learn female virtues and living skills which were vital to be dutiful wives and loving mothers.Along with the thought of women’s liberation in the West to be introduced into China, women came to be awakened in self-consciousness and began to accept modern education in various forms to be educated in science and culture, allowing them an attempt to walk out into the society. These narratives by the foreigners provide a fresh perspective for further studies on the history of Chinese women’s education in the late Qing Dynasty.
